It is called dual booting where your computer will have both XP and vista but you can use only one (XP or vista) at a time.i.e. when your parent use, your parent start computer with XP and when you want to use, you have to start computer with vista. So when staring, it will show menu to select vista or xp to start the computer with.

The following is guide on how to do it.

if Vista installed and you want to install XP

and reboot when you want
no you can not do that to users. But you can have two operating systems on your computer
If you have 2 hard drives, or 2 partitions, you can dual boot. Install one operating system on each hard drive, and it will give you the option to boot from either one when you start your computer.
No u can't. u have to install both the os. If u dual boot, u r parents will be happy with XP, %26 u can enjoy vistas new user experience.
