I ordered an Asus A8V-XE motherboard and Vista x64. They have not arrived yet, but I just realized there are no Vista drivers on the asus website for this particular board. i don't want to open the mobo and find it incompatible. Anyone know of a 939 board that works with vista 64?
Is there a 939 mobo compatible with vista 64-bit?antivirus software
Yes, MSI carries a few 64-bit boards that are compatible with Vista. However, be warned that many programs (including some virus scanners) hate the 64-bit environment and will not install/run at all. If I were you, I would avoid Vista-64 at all costs.

tbh if you find somewhere stocking many 939 mobos now your lucky,

Asrock has a couple 939 boards, but i have little faith in that company
other then that i can't really find any 939 boards which themselves support Vista although it shouldn't be too big of a deal.
Vista is meant to make use of the 64bit core, it should still run on a non Vista specialised board, it just... wont be as good.
Boy, did I work at this one (to no avail) - the problem with trying to find a socket 939 mobo that will definitely work with Vista is the age of those motherboards. Socket 939s stopped sometime in 2004, and apparently, while just about all of that generation of motherboard was certified for XP, its only the socket AM2 motherboards that are certified for Vista. I checked Abit, Asus, Biostar, ECS, and Gigabyte, and no one had socket 939 mobos with Vista drivers.
HOWEVER! I did a quick check of my PC, where I have Vista running in a virtual machine, and my PC is a socket 939 system from Gateway, with the Nvidia C51 chipset and GeForce 6100 onboard video - similar to many socket 939 mobos I looked at. Since that's one of the most common chipsets for socket 939 systems, and since the K8T890 in your Asus motherboard is also one of the most common chipsets of the time for socket 939 systems, I'd say you've got a very good chance that it will work with Vista. Granted, I could only find one K8T890 motherboard that's definitely certified for Vista (and it was socket AM2), but I'd still say its a good bet it will work with Vista. Hope this helps.
