Depends on what you mean by "restore". If you have a bunch of stuff you want to save, and you can still boot your machine then the first step would be to back up all that stuff to CD, DVD, USB drive, etc. Then if you have a restore disk that came w/ the machine simply boot to it and follow your nose. If you just have the OS on a disk then boot to that, after backing up your stuff of course, then you will need to delete the partition the OS is on, re-create the partition, format it, and install the OS. After you get the OS on the machine you will need to run all the windows updates, install antivirus, re-install all your software, and then put your backed up files back on teh machine.
How do you restore a hard drive on a compaq presario v200 with a window vista home basic or a windows xp?download
you can do a repair install of xp or vista and it won't lose all your programs as long as you don't repartition the harddrive or reformat it. the repair install will repair the os and save all your program settings.
