Yes, it's possible, but not a good idea unless you know what you're doing. If you have a full copy of the XP operating system (not those dopey backup disks you get from Dell or Gateway), and you COMPLETELY wipe out your Hard Drives, you can install XP as your base OS.

You obviously want to back up any data you have, and you can then use something like Boot %26 Nuke (http://dban.sourceforge.net/) to wipe the machine entirely clean.

Again, this is a bad idea unless you have a full copy of the OS and are prepared to lose any data you have on the PC.

I've tried that before. OEMs will allow you to do it (probably with customer support).

You could run XP Setup, format your drive and install it. When I tried that, I ended up with setup not launching for registration.
