Vista comes with Microsoft Works rather than with Microsoft Office. You should be able to find a word processor by starting Microsoft Works Task Launcher and the selecting Microsoft Works Word Processor

Use Wordpad. It should be in the accessories.
You can download Microsoft Word but it is expensive! You should have Wordpad built in. It is under All Programs %26gt; Accessories %26gt; Wordpad. With Wordpad you can do minimal document formatting. The Microsoft Office Suite works well and is pretty but will cost quite a bit of money.

For a free alternative you could try Open Office. Just make sure it says it will work under Vista.
Get open office - that will do the trick.

You can do most anything you need with this office suite - and it's free.
You'll have to use word pad that comes with the system unless you purchase Windows. There might be a free trial that you can use for 30 - 90 days - try Microsoft web site.
