I have to boot or restart my computer several times before it will start. I have vista home?

It could mean a couple of things. The CMOS battery which powers the BIOS and tells the computer what to do is dead, it is a small button battery found on your motherboard.

Try opening the case and seeing if all the RAM is seated(connected) correctly and check that you have the correct amount of RAM installed.

Also look if your video card is also connected properly.

Have a nice day

with vista there are a few things that might be causing this. I would suggest your first step is to run new virus and anti spyware scans.

Also download ccleaner and give your system a gooid registry check and fix.

after this...boot into safe mode...ie: press f8 just before the vista loading bar shows up and choose safe mode..does the pc boot everytime into safe mode? if so then its purely a driver a problem...check your drivers and re-install the latest ones for all your hardware.

if not then it might just be your RAm or your video card playing up...try taking them out and re-seating them in their respective slots.

you do not mention how far it gets into the boot sequence before you restart

If it gets to the windows title, then the problem is within windows and is prbably a bad device driver.

if it is prior to that then it is in the bios checking for devices and could be a hardware problem. if it is here, try checking out your fans, makesure they are running smoothly and the mother board is not covered in dust, if so gently clear it away.
