New Gateway, old 4yr. Dell with XP installed on it's Hard Drive, but mother board went bad.
Other than taking The XP drive fom my old Dell, and attaching to my new Gateway, as seperate HD what do I do???? New Gateway has Vista mother board installed, also one of the fastest on the market , according to PC PITSTOP
How can I run Vista on one hard drive and xp on another??firewall
If it is a newer pc, then your hard drive that came with the pc is SATA. Which in turn meansthat your old hard drive from old pc is EIDE. So switch the jumper on the old hard drive to cable select and connect it to the new computer in the IDE 1 lot. turn on computer. check to see if the computer can see it under COMPUTER. If you are having trouble booting then switch the IDE cable to IDE 0 and restart.
NOTE: Copy of XP on old hard drive will probably not work so this drive will serve as storage only. You will need to reinstall windows xp in the hard drive for it to work properly with your new pc and finding drivers will probably be a *****.
GOOD LUCK...
How can I run Vista on one hard drive and xp on another??husqvarna
se that s realy cool idea but u no wat u need to install xp first and wil not wok of the old system as it is in ur new pc and u need to install run setup from xp optrationg system and in partition selction use the partion that is of the 2nd harddisk u have installed and u can use the both operating in different hadr disk as u need but xp first new installed and than vist ok as old want work due to many change in new hardware
Dell and Gateway both make proprietary stuff so your Dell copy of XP will most likely not run on a Gateway computer.
Best thing is slave old one to new computer, transfer data to Vista harddrive, then format the old one and use it for storage.
