With new Vista computer, what spyware and firewall are needed?

I have whatever Vista comes with and have installed Avast antivirus. Do I need ZoneAlarm? Spybot S%26D? Ad-Aware? A different firewall and/or spyware?

Thank you.

With new Vista computer, what spyware and firewall are needed?free spyware

The rule is you need 1 anti-virus, 1 firewall, %26 several anti-spyware programs, regardless of the OS.

You have your anti-virus.

Windows firewall has only inbound protection, not outbound, so it's only 陆 a firewall. It can be configured for outbound protection, but it's an absolute nightmare trying to set it, not worth the effort. I would recomend getting ZoneAlarm %26 turning off the Windows firewall.

Vista comes with Windows Defender, but that's not enuf. You need at least a couple more spyware removers. These are free %26 work well:

Spybot Search %26 Destroy

And you must update Windows--there have been numerous Vista updates.

And make sure you always update all these tools before running them--an out-dated program is worthless

This is my first computer using the Vista OS and I keep experiencing an anoying problem.?

Everytime I close one open internet explorer window, I get an error message saying exployer has stopped working for an unknown reason forcing me to close it and thereby close all my open explorer windows. Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

It's not an uncommon error and frequently happens after an operating system updates itself. Updates are commonly installed without the user's knowledge as many operating systems ship with automatic update enabled. Restart your PC and the problem should be ok.

make sure you get all the latest updates from microsoftupdate.com
What that usually means is that a browser window is still busy and needs to complete its process. You might first change all of the browser windows to be on a simple text site like http://www.google.com and then close them.
Yes It is microsoft letting you know the pecking order!
Something is not installed right... go to www.microsoft.com and re-download and install IE, that might do it...
Backup your data and either A. Use system restore and restore to the day you fired up the laptop or, B. Un-install windows Vista then re-install it (using disks that you should of got, if not then call up mircosoft they'll give you free ones)
You might have too many add-ons associated with Internet Explorer. Try resetting IE back to default settings. Click Tools, Internet Options. Click on the Advanced Tab. Towards the bottom of the Advanced page, look for Reset Internet Explorer default settings...and click Reset. Follow any remaining instructions. You will now have a "fresh copy" of Internet Explorer that will run more efficiently. Just remember that the more bells and whistles you add to IE, the slower it will run until it just crashes(freezes).

I am currently on BT Total Broadband Option 1 and was thinking about upgrading to Option 2 that comes with a Hub. Do you think this would be better than buying a wireless router. There are so many different wireless routers and any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Bt is very reliable- i'm on their option 2 hub - works very well. Before that was on option one and with a netgear router and belkin- was also excellent- but a little bit fiddly to put together. The bt hub is very easy, upgraded as was cheaper than my existing bt package from years ago- so got the hub free and thought i might as well use it- works well.

I am on BT Option 1 but bought a BT Wireless Router and that works with desktops and laptops with wireless - I have had two laptops working at the same time. One has built-in wirelesss and the other a USB Wireless Dongle, bought at the same time as the Router.

That might be your best option.
The laptop should come with wireless check it out.

Vista you will hate. I had it for two months and installed XP over it. Now my computer zings along
You should get option 3 its only an extra 拢3 more than option 2 and you get UNLIMITED downloads with wireless hub/router with the phone. I did this today as was on option 1 and kept getting emails saying i went over my download allowance. Option 1 is 5gb option 2 is only 8gb at 拢22. Scandalous. Option 3`s the way to go.....
if you stay with bt that is a good option yes. if not a lynxis router is what i use, by cisco systems... never had any problems and it was very simple to set up... and it was only 拢20 from PC world.

i am only vista on my laptop and it makes me love my mac even more. think hard and try vista alot before getting it... but if you are dead set sony vaio is a bloody good option and you can chose what vista package you want pre installed!!

What are the pros and cons of Windows Vista?

I have read that it's a ram hog and won't run some programs that are made for XP.

What are the pros and cons of Windows Vista?pop up blocker

microsoft promises vista to be more secure and innovative with new features and capabilities. however, all these innovations come with a price, its not only ram hog but hdd space as well. if you only have 40 gig of hdd space, you'll give out half of that to vista and future upgrades. also, some programs don't work as well and some hardwares have drivers that are still in repair for use with vista.

What are the pros and cons of Windows Vista?systemworks

Yes and no, yes it needs more ram, no it is not true it runs software's for xp .
